Organisational Profile
The Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT) at the University of New South Wales brings together researchers from the faculties of Science, Engineering, and the Built Environment. SMaRT works with industry, global research partners, not-for-profits, local, state and federal governments, to develop innovative, green solutions for the world’s biggest waste challenges.
Deliverables
SMaRT aims to commercialise a range of recycled glass/textile/coffee waste panels and tiles for tables and benchtops. SMaRT engaged gemaker to conduct extensive market research to inform their commercialisation strategy, including advice on their best path to market to overcome any barriers.
Outcomes
gemaker identified and interviewed key contacts in local and state government procurement, furniture and interior design and architecture firms. The team conducted substantial online research to determine the market size and segments and industry trends, standards and certifications, and also identified competitors with comparable products, both in recycled and non-recycled materials, and their prices.
gemaker delivered a concise but comprehensive report explaining the market drivers, influencers, barriers to purchase and a clear path to market including specific marketing channels and champions. The report will not only inform SMaRT’s commercialisation journey, but also support their funding applications.
In addition, gemaker provided warm introductions to key influencers in government and private sectors.
